Coming this August is a new documentary centered on mezcal called Sons of Mezcal. Directed and produced by Stephan Werk, it follows the Cortés family who have been producing mezcal in Oaxaca for six generations.

One of Oaxaca’s most celebrated areas for mezcal production, San Luis del Rio, was shaken in January by the tragic news that one of its prime mezcaleros, Don Rafael Méndez Cruz, unexpectedly passed away…On a positive note Don Rafael will be featured in Sons of Mezcal, an upcoming documentary set for release this summer.

In the documentary Sons of Mezcal, debuting this spring of 2021, Stephan Werk, director and executive producer, curates an in-depth look at the sanctity of this libation and its all encompassing contribution to Zapotec families.
